Hero Award Winner – Beth Carpenter

On July 9, 2017 Lone Star Park and Score A Goal In The Classroom were honored to present the 2017 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award to Beth Carpenter, a thirty-one-year employee of the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw I.S.D.!  Beth is a very outstanding custodian at her school, Eagle Mountain Elementary School, where her daughter Rebecca also works in the Physical Education Department, as a third generation employee!!

Mrs. Carpenter is a Hero to all her students and staff, continually demonstrating great values and leadership.  Congratulations to Beth and to her husband, Nicholas!  We deeply appreciate who she is, and all she does – “with such class!!”

Arlington Heights High School Tennis Player’s Award

LIBBY CURTIS, student at Fort Worth I.S.D.’s AHHS, is the new Jayne Trigg Fraley “Heart of the Jacket” Award winner.  Libby was selected as the most improved player on the tennis squad this school year, and she demonstrates a remarkable, ‘never-never-give-up’ attitude.  Way to go, Libby!!

Kool Sock Achievement Awards

The selected most-improved students and one outstanding teacher in eight area schools were awarded the KOOL SOCK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD late May and June of this year.  These very special sock awards are provided once a year by Foot Cardigan of Dallas in conjunction with SAGITC.  Congratulations to each of these winners, as listed below:

NICHOLAS MORRIS NEW DRAMA-THEATRE HERO

The Drama/Theater Teacher at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, Mr. Nicholas Morris, was honored at the May 25, 2017 Betty Buckley Awards at Casa Manana. He was awarded the 2017 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award for being the most outstanding in his field in North Texas, and given an all-expense-paid trip to San Diego for two this summer!

Nicholas has dedicated his career of more than twenty-five years to instill a love of the theater and drama in all of his students.  He says he is continuously amazed at how they overcome challenges and rise to the next level of excellence!  Mr. Morris received his Bachelor of Arts and Theatre from Midwestern State University, and his Master of Arts from Dallas Baptist University.  

B. H. FRIEDMAN HERO HONORED 5-12&14-2017

DEBBIE O’BRIEN has been named the 2017 recipient of the prestigious Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award for being selected the most outstanding secondary school teacher in all of the North Texas schools!  Miss O’Brien received her new crystal trophy and check for $1,000 at the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra performance at Bass Hall on Friday, May 12; and was recognized again at the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra concert on May 14, 2017.

Debbie is currently the orchestral music teacher at Fort Worth I.S.D.’s combined Benbrook Middle-High Schools, and has produced many Texas state winners in her twenty-nine years of teaching.  She received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Texas in Arlington, and her Master’s Degree from Texas Christian University.  Congratulations, Debbie!!  

D & M LEASING “Keep the Reading Lamp Lit” Reading Program

Beverly Fletcher, FWISD – Visual Arts Director – Honored at the Dream Makers Art Festival and the Nutcracker Ballet at Bass Hall (2-25-16 and 12-23-16) / 2) Ramon Niño, III, FWISD – Mariachi Music Teacher – Honored by the Fort Worth Symphony at Bass Hall (5-14-16) / Dr. Germán Gutiérrez, FWYO Conductor – Honored also by the Fort Worth Symphony at Bass Hall (5-14-16) / Camille Haley, Birdville ISD – Drama Teacher – Honored at the Casa Mañana Buckley Awards (5-19-16) / Charlie Qualls, FWISD – Maintenance – Honored at Lone Star Park (7-9-16) / and Tim Buchanan, Aledo ISD – Athletic Director-Coach – HOnored at the Aledo Bearcat Stadium.

2016 HOLT HICKMAN HERO AWARD Recipient – Sue Testerman was honored at the November 19, 2016 Shrine Circus performance for being chosen the most outstanding 2016 Dyslexis Therapist/Teacher in North Texas.  Sue works effectively and affectionately with her students in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.

TCU READING FESTIVAL – MARCH 4, 2017

Thanks to Half Price Books, many TCU sorority and fraternity mentors, and about 300 young students from nine metroplex schools, the Saturday morning, “Fall in Love with Reading” Spring Reading Festival at TCU we sponsored was very fun and a win-win for all!   These are the schools who were invited to participate:
