SCOTT WERNTZ, the Drama/Theater Director at Grapevine Faith Christian School, was honored as this year’s Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award winner for being the best in category in North Texas!!  The award ceremony took place during  the Casa Manana Betty Buckley Awards in May, 2018.  Scott, thank you for your very successful work with the high school students who will have a brighter future because of you!


LINDSEY TRAUGHBER, the gifted and committed instrumental music teacher at Fort Worth’s McLean Middle School, was honored with the 2018 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award on May 20 during the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra concert at Bass Hall.  Lindsey was presented a $1,000 honorarium by the Mary Potishman Lard Trust for her diligent, talented work with the FWISD students there.  Congratulations, Lindsey, to you and your family!!  You have been a great blessing!!


The Fort Worth Ballet and Score A Goal In The Classroom honored June Davis the 2017 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award for being the best Special Projects Director in North Texas!  June has worked very successfully with the staff and students of the FWISD for many years to help myriads of students.  She was awarded a $1,000 honorarium by MedStar Mobile Healthcare at the Nutcracker Ballet performance on December 21, 2017.  WE LOVE YOU, JUNE!!!!


RB newspaper announcement  ANNA SOPHIA HEYNE, a 2nd grader at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, won the 2017 Texas Reading Bee Championship Competition reading at a college freshman level!!  Anna Sophia walked away with a new Go-Kart and many other great prizes.  Congratulations also to the runner-up, ALEXANDER OLIVER, a student at Arlington Classics Academy!

Third place winner was Caroline Dreese, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD; coming in fourth was Paul Gilchrist from Burleson ISD, and Averi Taylor from the Granbury ISD came in fifth place.

All the excited North Texas second grade reading champs from their own Texas public school districts and private schools arrived on December 9, 2017 with eagerness to compete in the reading competition.  And all the students are to be congratulated!!  The other students chosen to compete are as follows:

Extraordinary Nolan Catholic High School Student Honored

Damon Ramirez is known for his leadership, work ethic, athleticism and instincts…is a smart, max effort player and considered a tough competitor.”    Damon was the baseball team’s primary leadoff hitter as a junior and selected 1st Team All District.  He is a 4-year letterman in football, selected 1st Team All District and 2nd Team All State for two consecutive years.  Ramirez carries a 97+ GPA, a National Hispanic Merit Scholar, and had perfect attendance his freshman and sophomore years.

Damon was presented the prestigious Don Miller Award by Ernie Horn at the end of the 2016-2017 school year at the Nolan Catholic High School’s annual sports banquet.  Go Vikings!!   

Hero Award Winner – Beth Carpenter

On July 9, 2017 Lone Star Park and Score A Goal In The Classroom were honored to present the 2017 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award to Beth Carpenter, an over thirty-one-year employee of the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw I.S.D.!  Beth is a very outstanding custodian at Eagle Mountain Elementary School, where her daughter Rebecca also works in the Physical Education Department as a third generation employee!!


Mrs. Carpenter is a Hero to all her students and staff, continually demonstrating great values and leadership.  Congratulations to Beth and to her husband, Nicholas!  We deeply appreciate who she is, and all she does – “with such class!!”
