The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Score A Goal In The Classroom School Incentive program named Northwest ISD’s Director of Fine Arts, Dr. Kevin Lacefield as this year’s recipient of the Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award.  The award presentation was April 6, 2013 at Bass Hall during the Fort Worth Symphony concert.

Dr. Lacefield has led his district’s Fine Arts Program to become recognized as one of the best communities for music education in the United States, with their enrollment more than doubling in the last five years.  He received his Doctorate of Education from the University of North Texas.  He, his wife Sarah, and their two children – Jackson and Marissa - all share his love for the arts.

Sandra McCreary is the “Nurse of the Year” and was honored at Texas Christian University on November 10, 2012.  Sandra has been a very compassionate care-giver as head nurse at Fort Worth ISD’s Ridglea Hills Elementary School for the last 17 years!  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from TCU.  She and her husband Robert have three children.

Texas Christian University nd Score A Goal In The Classroom have selected Fort Worth Country Day’s Assistant Upper School Division Head, Peggy Wakeland, as the recipient of the 2013 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award for being the most outstanding school principal in all of North Texas!  The award presentation was Saturday, February 9th at the TCU basketball game in the Daniel Myers Coliseum.

Ms. Wakeland received her Bachelor’s Degree in Arts at the University of Teas at Arlington and her Master’s Degree in Education at TCU.  She has been at her present position at Fort Worth Country Day School for 15 years.

Score A Goal In The Classroom hosted the finals of the 2012 NORTH TEXAS READING BEE CHAMPIONSHIPS on Saturday, November 17, at TCU.  Twenty-eight North Texas contestants competed to see which second grader would emerge as #1 Reading Bee Champ.  Congratulations to SAM WILLEY, a very outstanding 2nd grader at Holy Family Catholic School, the new 2012 CHAMP, who won reading at a college freshman level!  Besides special tickets to TCU basketball, Dallas Stars hockey, and Texas Ranger baseball games, Sam won a laptop computer, a Go-Kart, an I-pod Bookmark, and a $500 savings bond from EECU. 

Runner-up was Kennedy Stevens from East Fort Worth Montessori.  Kavi Stevick, from St. Andrews Catholic School, took third place; coming in fourth was Cameron White from Joshua ISD.  Kenna Clark, representing Granbury ISD, came in fifth.  CONGRATULATIONS to all these top readers who have worked hard to become top-notch readers!

The Moslah Shrine Circus and Score A Goal In The Classroom have recognized Richard Robinson, Northwest ISD’s exemplary Special Education teacher, with the 2012 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award.  Mr. Robinson was also presented a $1,000 honorarium by the Mary Potishman Lard Trust at the the Shrine Circus on Monday, October 15, 2012.

Mr. Robinson received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Northeast Louisiana University.  He is married to his childhood sweetheart Ginger, who is recognized as one of the most outstanding school counselors in the nation.

Elia Rodriguez has been named the 2012 Bayard H. Friedman HERO Award recipient for being the most outstanding 2012 First Year Teacher in North Texas!  The award and a $1,000 honorarium was presented to this FWISD DeZavala Elementary teacher at the Visions Women Expo in Dallas on August 25, 2012.
